Text Features and Geronimo Stilton

Learning about text features will help our students in creating their own visual representations of both fiction and non-fiction. One of the best ways I could show students text features was to use Geronimo Stilton books.
There is a great use of fonts, colours and formats in each of these books that helped as a springboard for discussion of text features.

Each of my students that looked at these books was able to rapidly see the use of text features. In many of the books there are "non-fiction" pages that are formatted very differently from the rest of the books. This helped to compare and contrast format, font and colour.

We also explored infographics, posters (including Glogster) and other representations of the use of text features. I hope this will help you as you look at text features! (ELA content beginning in Grade 2 for BC's Modernized Curriculum)

Blessings,
Natalie
